When the Devils recently announced the return of the throwback uniform, it impressed people. To be fair to other fans a black uniform is nice, but I love the uniform hardening back to the old days to fit the theme. It also shows that it looks different than the other throwback uniforms we wear in some games. So, I had a thought, which New Jersey Devils uniform is the best uniform ever? So, we’ll look at all the uniforms and rank them from not great to the perfect uniform of all time.

7. Current Uniforms

When the current uniforms were announced in 2017 fans weren’t thrilled. When we first saw the uniform, the one thing that lacked was the stripe on the bottom. Now don’t get me wrong, I like what Adidas attempted to do with this, but it feels like nothing changed after moving over from the Reebok uniforms. While other NHL teams change their uniform to stand out, but the Devils’ main jerseys haven’t changed. Now granted, many other teams like the New York Rangers, for example, keep their original designs, but I want more originality for the future. There just needs to be a little more to get higher in the rankings.

6. 2007 Reebok Uniforms

Speaking of that Reebok jersey, it comes in as the 6th best jersey the Devils have ever worn. Thankfully, this one has the stripe on the bottom, which is always a classic. The reason it’s on the bottom is that nothing changes here despite having the Reebok name on it. Everything looks the same as the jerseys worn from the early 90s and late 2000s jerseys.

5. 2018 Heritage Uniforms

Now we’re getting into the uniforms that stand out in terms of design. The 2018 Heritage jersey changes things from the previous two jerseys you read. First, we have green and red stripes on the bottom, something that the original Devil’s jerseys had. That same pattern is featured on the arms as well. I love the use of red on the numbers and the letters. Plus, the white on the jersey works and matches with the amount of red on the jersey. This jersey is much better, but I wouldn’t say I like the white that much. That’s why this is the 5th best.

4. 2014 Stadium Series Uniforms

The Stadium Series jersey may be similar to two other uniforms on our list, but it has some differences. It’s identical to the 1982 uniform, with a primary red color with green piping. It still has the white outline with the numbers and letters on it. It does come with a red helmet, which adds to the ensemble. The Devils even wore these jerseys against the Rangers in the 2014 Stadium Series. Even though the team lost, at least people who don’t follow the Devils got to see the original jersey’s old design.

Now here is the uniform that everyone knows and loves when it comes to the New Jersey Devils. Whether it’s the away jersey or the home uniform, Devils fans can’t deny we’ve had many moments and memories in these jerseys, especially when we won our three Stanley Cups in these jerseys. This jersey is the one Devils uniform that has stood the test of time forever with it’s simple red and black design. With its recognizable black stripe and being red throughout, this is one Devil’s uniform everyone has hanging upon their closets. So why isn’t this number one then? While this is the jersey people remember, the designs for number two and one tend to stand out.

2. Retro Reverse Throwback Uniforms

When the uniforms were announced, and we all saw it, I know now I’m going to be spending money on this. If the Devils do play this season, I can’t wait to see the players on the ice wearing this. This uniform may look like something we would wear around Christmas time, but that’s almost identical to our original 1982 uniform. What makes this different from the 2014 Stadium Series uniform, though, is instead of red all over, we changed it to green. I love the red and green stripe on the bottom of the uniform. Plus, the red outline on the numbers and letters help stitch it out nicely. It looks clean if you think about it. I cannot wait to get my hands on it. But I believe this next jersey was how the jersey got its idea.

Now we have come to the last and the original jersey that started it all. If you look at how similar it is to the Retro Throwback Jersey, you can see one significant difference. Instead of being green on the outside, it’s now mostly red on the outside. But like the Retro Throwback Jersey, it still has the same green and red stripes all over it. In terms of history and longevity, this is number one for a reason.

While the Devils didn’t win any cups in this uniform like the uniform that followed it, it shouldn’t take away from the nostalgia Devils fans have for it. You can still see Scott Stevens, Scott Niedermayer, and Martin Brodeur wear this uniform, and all those guys are on the rafters of the Prudential Center. So if there are any thanks to that, the Retro Throwback Uniform has to say, it’s this uniform.
