Hopefully, December brings New Jersey Devils hockey back to our lives.

The New Jersey Devils haven’t played a hockey game since March. It has been a very long time, so fans probably are very anxious to see their team again. We don’t know how the 2020-21 NHL season is going to pan out but we hope it becomes more clear during the month of December. The NHL and NHLPA are currently working out whether or not this thing is going to get going sometime in January. All we can do now is wait for something good to happen.

What are we going to see if good Devils’ news happens? The answer is to be excited about this exciting young team to get back on the ice. They have a budding young core that they hope becomes very good someday. Kids like Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier are looking to take the next step in their NHL careers. They should both return bigger, stronger, and more motivated than ever to get this team off the ground.

They aren’t going to see newly drafted prospects like Alex Holtz or Dawson Mercer make the NHL this year but there are other ones to be excited about. Of course, there is a chance we see players like Ty Smith or Jesper Boqvist make their mark on the team at the NHL level. There is also the opportunity to see if guys like Kevin Bahl or Nolan Foote be impactful players at the AHL or NHL level as well. This is an exciting time if you like prospects and seeing them advance through the system.

The Devils probably aren’t going into next season as favorites to win their division or anything but there is hope that some things click and they make the playoffs. If they were to realign the divisions for COVID-19 reasons, the Devils would be in a very tough division but the Metropolitan Division is hard normally anyway. It will be a great test for their young team either way.

2020 has been a tough year for almost all of us. We have missed our Devils no matter what their record was when the season was canceled. When they finally come back, it will be great for the spirits of most people who love this team. We don’t know exactly who is going to fill out the roster but we know that the usual cast will be there to excite us once again. This is going to be fun to watch when they do finally get back.
