The New Jersey Devils have a great prospect in Alex Holtz. He is going to play for Team Sweden at the WJC.

The New Jersey Devils, as being noted all week, have a lot of talented players going over to the World Juniors. They also have the best player available to Team USA in Jack Hughes and they are choosing not to let him go so he can focus on the NHL season. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the young players in this organization. Alex Holtz might be one of the most exciting young players of them all right now.

Holtz received the nod to be on the roster for Team Sweden at the World Junior Classic. That is really exciting as he will have some very good teammates and play against some really good competition. This comes just a few months after being the seventh overall pick in the 2020 NHL Draft by New Jersey. This tournament should be another great step towards him being a very good pro hockey player.

Holtz is off to a very good start with his club team in the SHL. It is no surprise that he made it to the World Junior tournament because he is one of the countries top prospects. He is known for being a goal scorer by using his fantastic shot but he is starting to show other aspects to his game. For one, he can score goals in many different ways. As nice as his shot is, when you get to the NHL, you want to be able to score goals in any way you can get them if you are a goal scorer.

Another asset that he seems to be developing ahead of the tournament is his playmaking. He might never be as good as a Jack Hughes or Nico Hischier at passing but he can get close. All of these skills should allow him to really help the New Jersey Devils attack once he reaches the National Hockey League.

Holtz isn’t the only player on Team Sweden for New Jersey to keep an eye on either. There are some players that have yet to be drafted that will be there. Most notable is his Djurgarden teammate, William Eklund. They have been linemates with Djurgarden and have had some good chemistry over there. Eklund is a top prospect eligible for the 2021 NHL Draft so you never know if the Devils consider him one day.

Holtz will go up against that previously mentioned USA team and they will be good with or without Hughes. The biggest favorite in the tournament this year has to be Canada. They don’t have their best player either (Alexis Lafreniere) but they are still amazing. Seeing Holtz and Team Sweden take on some of these teams is sure to be fun for all Devils fans.
