The New Jersey Devils have released their schedule and it is very exciting.

It is about that time. After a long layoff for the New Jersey Devils, we finally have their schedule for the 2020-21 season. They were one of the seven teams not invited to the return to play bubble so their fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time compared to the rest of the league. The schedule is out so we have some clarity on who the Devils will be lining up against and when. There are some very exciting dates to be excited about.

The Devils are going to compete in the NHL’s new East Division. For 2020-21, they realigned to keep travel down and make it safe for everyone. They will be in the same division as the Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Washington Capitals. It is an extremely tough division, but it should be very good for the team’s development.

To start, the Devils will open their season at home against the Boston Bruins. They will play the Bruins twice in back to back games in Newark. That is a little bit against the norm, but the situation that we are in right now causes for a schedule like this. There are going to be a few instances where they play teams in back to backs in the same building.

The following game after the two against the Bruins will be against their rival the New York Rangers. It is the first time these two will meet and it will be at Madison Square Garden in New York. It should be a lot of fun watching these two teams compete against each other as they try to grow as organizations. The Rangers’ first visit to Prudential Center will come on February 6th.

On January 30th, Taylor Hall will get his first chance to compete against the New Jersey Devils since being traded away last December. That game will be in Buffalo. There won’t be any fans in attendance but his first trip back to Newark will be on February 20th when the Sabres play the Devils at Prudential Center.

This is a tough schedule for everyone. For the Devils, it is mostly about developing their young kids, so a schedule like this could be good or bad. They will be playing good teams on most nights so they will be able to see top opponents regularly. Hopefully, they give themselves an opportunity to play meaningful games all season long and see the most important players play well.
