The New Jersey Devils should add Yegor Sharangovich to the Opening Night Roster.

The New Jersey Devils have a lot of great young prospects. Of course, they also have a plethora of young players that aren’t prospects anymore like Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Jack Hughes. The goaltender, Mackenzie Blackwood, is very young as well, so they are building a nice young core there. One young player that might be worth looking at in the NHL is Yegor Sharangovich. He has come up through the ranks of the organization and might be ready to take his next step.

The Devils were having a scrimmage during their practice today and broadcasted it online to the public. They had a “Red Team” play against a “White Team” and Sharangovich was one of the stars of the Red Team. He scored two of their goals and helped them win. He is really showing himself to be a great goal scorer. His second goal, in particular, was a complete rocket to put his team ahead.

In the AHL, he scored around ten goals a season, but something changed for him after the hockey pause. He was loaned to Dinamo Minsk of the KHL to start this season and he found a new talent of his. He has been encouraged to start shooting the puck more, and that has led to him scoring a lot more goals. In 34 games for Dinamo, he scored a remarkable 17 goals.

Now that he is in NHL Training Camp, it seems like he has taken that shooter’s mentality with him to North America. Scoring goals is something that New Jersey desperately needs. They have a bunch of young players who have a pass-first mentality so putting some of them with a goal scorer like Sharangovich would go a long way.

Of course, before the COVID-19 pandemic, we really never saw Sharangovich as a guy who had the chance to make the team this year but here we are. If he is good enough in his own end, there is no reason not to have him on the Opening Day Roster. There are plenty of spots up for grabs so Sharangovich is on a good track to grab one.

If Sharangovich continues to put the puck in the net, they should be able to find him as a useful player. Lindy Ruff has implemented a very fast-paced system and it is evident just by watching their practices. Sharangovich and his shot should be able to make an impact on this team but we will never know unless he gets in a few games. Beyond that, they can evaluate him from there.
