The New Jersey Devils last win came on March 7th against the hated New York Rangers. It’s been a long time since the Devils have put two points on the board, but that changed on Saturday.

The Devils came close to beating the Boston Bruins on Thursday, their first game of the season. The reigning President’s Trophy winners look a lot different with no David Pastrnak, Zdeno Chara, or Torey Krug. Still, this is an incredibly good team the Devils are facing in back-to-back games. They lost to Boston in the shootout in the first game, but they avoided it by the skin of their teeth on Saturday afternoon.

Yegor Sharangovich scored his first NHL goal with just 1.7 seconds left in overtime. You can see the goal in the video above. Sharangovich came up the middle of the ice with time ticking down, and Damon Severson sent a no-look pass to the Belarusian forward. He ran up and beat Jaroslav Halak just under his leg pad.

Halak was insane all game, stopping huge chances by Pavel Zacha, Jack Hughes, and Kyle Palmieri among others. The Devils had nine high-danger chances in regulation to the Bruins’ four. So, the Devils offense was buzzing and the defense was playing well.

Still, it was on the stick of Sharangovich to make sure the Devils came out with two points. This angle shows just how little room he had to shoot that puck, but put it in the perfect spot.

And his postgame interview with Erika Wachter was just so pure, we’re in love.

Devils fans have a lot to be excited about to start this season. There’s a lot to work on as well (power play especially), but right now the fans should be happy with how the team looks now. It’s too early to project anything, but if this team keeps playing like this when Nico Hischier. Jesper Bratt, and Sami Vatanen come back, watch out.
