Philadelphia Flyers

The New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers don’t make very many trades with each other, but the Flyers are getting very close to desperation after a rough week. They lost 9-0 to the New York Rangers, then they blew a 3-0 lead against the New York Islanders before holding on for a 4-3 win. This was a team many thought could fight for the best record in the East Division. Now, they are in fifth place, three points behind the Boston Bruins for the final playoff spot.

The Flyers haven’t really been able to replace the loss of Matt Niskanen, who retired before the season. He was right handed, so Murray would not help replace him, but he could help this defense in front of Carter Hart and Brian Elliott.

The Flyers goalies are both in the tank this season. The Flyers can’t really fix that with an extra acquisition in net. Hart and Elliott have to figure it out (only Ottawa has a worse team save percentage than Philadelphia). They can, however, limit the amount of high-dangers chances happening in front of the goalies. While Murray has had some issues, he’s been much better as of late. He only allowed one high-danger chance at 5v5 in the last game against the Penguins.

Murray is starting to hit his stride after a horrendous start. The Flyers could look to get in on a Murray trade before his value skyrockets. If how he’s played over the last week how he’s going to play from now on, he could become too expensive an asset for the Flyers. If they try to jump on him now, they could get him for a mid-round pick.
