The New Jersey Devils are going to make the fourth-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft after the results of the Draft Lottery that took place on Wednesday night. It is going to take a lot to make sure that they are prepared to make the right pick.

There is a lot of good players to consider with the pick but it is certainly going to be a big decision. There are a lot of defensemen and some good forwards to consider. This lottery luck is actually pretty good for them with all things considered.

The New Jersey Devils are going to be making the fourth-overall pick in 2021.

The Devils certainly aren’t going to land someone like Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes as they did with the first-overall pick in terms of expectations but they can get someone who turns into a star. There is a lot of potential for every team in the top five so it is up to the Devils scouting department to make the right choice.

In the lottery, every team retained their original position except for the Anaheim Ducks and Seattle Kraken. The Kraken jumped the Ducks to pick second in the draft and the Buffalo Sabres won the first-overall pick. It was a really interesting draft lottery because it doesn’t always go like that. There wasn’t much of a shock factor and the only team that fell was Anaheim and it was only one spot. Every team in the top five should be somewhat happy with the way this went.

There are some nice prospects, as mentioned before, to consider with this pick. Owen Power, Matt Beniers, Brandt Clarke, William Eklund, and Luke Hughes are all going to be in the mix for the top five. Owen Power and Matt Beniers are two Michigan teammates that are both hoping to go in the top five. There is actually a very good chance they go in the top three.

A lot of New Jersey Devils fans want Luke Hughes. Of course, New Jersey took his older brother Jack Hughes with the first-overall pick in 2019 and he looks like he could be turning into a superstar. Their oldest brother Quinn Hughes is a stud defenseman with the Vancouver Canucks as well so you know the family has pedigree. If they ended up with a second Hughes bother, there could be a lot of fun to be had.

Some people might be disappointed that they didn’t win but they are in a good spot. With the fourth-overall pick, they are going to select a very good player. It will be interesting to see if they are in this spot again in 2021-22 where there are some really good players at the top. It is going to be fun to see how this all unfolds.
