It was a great day when the New Jersey Devils signed Dougie Hamilton. He is a big-time defenseman that was a free agent looking for a new home in the NHL. He has had some ups and downs in his NHL career but he became an elite player with the Carolina Hurricanes over the last few years. Now he is hoping that he can become something special in the Devils’ organization.

The excitement does wear off after a while when we have to go through the dog days of summer without hockey. Luckily, fans were treated to some wholesome content on Wednesday when pictures of Hamilton skating in Devils gear came out.

This is something that could change the fortunes of the franchise. They have a lot of very young players in the organization so getting a very solid veteran on the blue line should help a lot of people out. He is perfect for what New Jersey is trying to do next year and beyond.

Hockey is on the way. Hamilton is clearly getting ready for a big season with New Jersey as he tries to play well for his new team. He is going to fit in very well with other good defensemen like Ty Smith, Damon Severson, and Ryan Graves. With youngsters like Luke Hughes or Kevin Bahl potentially on the way, the future of the defense core looks great with Hamilton leading the way.

Dougie Hamilton was looking very good in New Jersey Devils gear on Wednesday.

It looked great seeing Hamilton rocking some Devils gear. He has been so good for a long time now and he will bring something that New Jersey needs really bad. Hamilton has the ability to be one of the best defensemen in the entire NHL. He came in 4th place for the Norris Trophy in 2020-21 with his 10 goals and 32 assists for 42 points in 55 games.

Hamilton also had a 55.3 percent CorsiFor which tells you that the Hurricanes were significantly better at even-strength when it came to creating offense. With some of the players that New Jersey is trying to develop, that should really help.

Having Dougie Hamilton should provide good back-end offense. He can make big-time passes to guys like Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes which should help them both take big steps offensively. With wingers like Tomas Tatar, Jesper Bratt, Yegor Sharangovich, and Janne Kuokkanen amongst others, it has the potential to be a very good group.

There is still a couple of more weeks before training camp gets going but we now have a glimpse of what Hamilton looks like in the red and black. He was fine in the Carolina red and black but the New Jersey version hits different. Hopefully, Hamilton is able to live up to this hype as we get into the season.
