Trade Four

For those not as familiar with the Edmonton Oilers as someone who lives in the area, let’s sum it up quickly. The fans are going nuts because they know they are wasting the careers of the two best players in the world and the frustration is visible in everyone on and off the ice. Holland needs to make moves to save his job and this even goes as far as probably signing Evander Kane who is on his 50th chance by now.

They have blamed Mikko Koskinen in net to the point, he said to the press “I can’t score goals” so he is on his way out either now or in the offseason. Taking him off the cap would be doing the Oilers a big favor and allow them to get a goalie for a potential playoff run while the Devils would be getting a guy to come in and play so Blackwood can go heal while they increase their own trade value by weaponizing cap space.

The Oilers need cap space and depth so this really solves some problems for them while not impacting them much at all and allowing them the ability to make more deals including that for a goalie. They also would be hanging onto their big prospects like Broberg, Holloway, and Bourgault so Oilers fans would definitely be cheering.

On the Devils end, this is a riskier trade. However, Lavoie was supposed to be a 1st-rounder when he fell into the second and currently has 12 points in 27 AHL games. He is a big body at 6’4 and moves well for a guy his size so this could be a good future move for a small, weak Devils team without enough competition. As for Petrov he was a 6th round pick last year but has really had a strong season in the OHL. In 35 games he has 56 points and as a late-round pick, you never know if this is a flash in the pan or he turned a corner in a big way but the Oilers have so many more important prospects it is not a big deal and the Devils are in the position to take the chance.
