The New Jersey Devils were coming into their game against St. Louis Blues off a big win over the Montreal Canadiens. The problem with that big win is the fact that it was against the team with the least amount of points in the National Hockey League. The Blues are a completely different story.

St. Louis is one of the best teams in the Central Division and will surely be in the playoffs competing for the Stanley Cup. That surely put the fear in the heads of a lot of Devils fans. Somehow, New Jersey was able to have another very fun win over them on the road.

For the second game in a row, New Jersey scored seven goals. It was in a comeback effort as they went into the third period down 3-2. Not only were they down, but they were also down to a team that knows how to close out games that they lead in late.

Luckily, Nico Hischier plays for the Devils. He led the way to the comeback in the third period. He made an amazing pass to Yegor Sharangovich during a two on one situation and Sharangovich was able to score the goal and tie the game at three.

Just over two minutes later, Hischier scored a goal of his own to give the Devils the lead. It was one of the most dominant two-minute stretches of his entire career. It really turned the momentum away from the Blues and brought it to the Devils.

Not long after that, Michael McLeod took a goalie interference penalty against Jordan Binnington which was going to give the Blues a chance to tie it once again. Hischier, as a true captain does, climbed over the boards right after making two amazing plays to kill a penalty. Of course, they were successful.

For good measure, Hischier scored an empty-net goal to cap off his outstanding night. They really needed a game like that from him as he is there to be one of their best players. With goals in three straight games, he is now tied with Jack Hughes and Pavel Zacha for second on the team.

Nico Hischier has been amazing for the New Jersey Devils in his last few games.

Hischier’s value to the New Jersey Devils is one of the most common debates online. It isn’t really fair though. Yes, he needs to be a little bit more impactful in terms of offense but we know all of the other things that he does to help the team.

His CorsiFor of 54 percent shows exactly what type of player he is but the chances need to start beating the goalie more. It is clear that it is going to start looking more like this game against the Blues as time goes on. People forget that he is still only 23.

Hischier and the Devils have a super matchup on Sunday as their next game. They are finally back home to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney Crosby is sitting on 499 career goals so you can be certain that his 500th will come against the Devils. Even still, it is a great chance for Hischier and the Devils to keep the great play going.
