The New Jersey Devils have a lot of problems right now. They aren’t a good team and they are a long way away from being Stanley Cup contenders once again. However, they do have two players that they are currently building around named Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier.

Both of those guys are so important to the future of the organization as the top two centers. Each was a first-overall pick made by New Jersey. Now, they are starting to show what they can do as their development seems to be working.

One Monday, Nico Hischier was named to be the third star of the week for the week prior. In four games played over the week, he had five goals and one assist for six points. He helped lead a major comeback against the St. Louis Blues and did various other things that help his team.

For a long time, Hischier provided slightly above average offensive numbers. His underlying numbers are always amazing but eventually, the production needs to be shown in terms of goals and assists. As he is given better scorers as wingers, things could get even better.

He needs to keep this up in order for him to reach his real potential as a former number one pick. If he continues to have weeks like he just had, that will certainly be the case. The fact that he could be the second-best player on this team should be very exciting for Devils fans.

The best player is probably going to be Jack Hughes. He has the ability to own teams using the offensive skills that few in the world possess. He has been showing flashes of offensive brilliance ever since he broke into the NHL and it has become more and more consistent every day.

The New Jersey Devils need Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier to keep up the good work.

Hughes has been so good this season that he was named as New Jersey’s representative in the All-Star Game. He put on a show during both the skills competition and the actual game. He should now be considered one of the elite players in the NHL and he is only going to get better.

Right when Hughes came back from the All-Star Game, Hischier was one of the stars of the week. That is exactly what the Devils and the fans need to see. This team is only going to go places if these two guys reach their potential.

Each of them scored a goal in Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was a tough game but it was good to see the two young stars contributing. They need to see more of that with every passing week.

They have Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning before an eight-day stretch with no games. It is going to be a good opportunity for everyone to get away from hockey and return fresh ready to go. The future is bright with these two young men.
