The New Jersey Devils had a bad stretch in the second period of their game on Thursday that caused them to lose the game. The goalie couldn’t make a save on a dump in and the team was outscored on their own power play.

The game was one of many bad ones this season as they ended up losing to the Buffalo Sabres by a final score of 5-2. Buffalo gets made fun of a lot but they have actually been pretty good over the last few weeks while New Jersey has been struggling hard in 2022.

One player who has been a breath of fresh air, however, is Jesper Boqvist. He was at one time one of the top prospects in New Jersey’s organization. Since then, he has been up and down from the AHL to NHL with minimal production in the big leagues.

Lately, he has been one of the team’s top scorers which is really cool to see. He could go from being a borderline disappointment to someone who was just a late bloomer. We know that he has tremendous skill and it has been on display lately. He would be helping himself a lot if he kept it up over the last handful of games.

The New Jersey Devils have something in Jesper Boqvist as he is hot right now.

Boqvist scored his 10th goal of the season in the loss to Buffalo which marked his third straight game with a goal and four in his last five. Since the calendar flipped to April, he has seven points in the ten games played by the New Jersey Devils.

He isn’t a star player set to make eight million dollars soon or anything like that but he is looking like a highly skilled player that can contribute in the National Hockey League. If he finishes strong, he could make a great trade asset or a piece to be excited about going into 2022-23.

With this season being as ugly as it was, it is nice to see a few nice stories come out of it. We have that with Jesper Boqvist as he tries to make it in the NHL full time. If he can be in the mix of good young depth players that this team has at the NHL level and in the pipeline, the team might be able to start taking some steps towards being a winning one soon.

There is still a lot of work to be done for him if he wants to instill a tremendous amount of confidence in the management team. This turnaround certainly will help with that if he keeps it up. It should be a lot of fun to watch.
