Nico Hischier had a sensational tournament for Team Switzerland at the 2022 IIHF World Championships. He showed the offensive brilliance he was bringing to the New Jersey Devils in the second half of the 2021-22 season. It appears that he is ready to take a big step.

We always knew that Hischeir was a complete NHL player but had another gear to get to offensively. He showed that he has been improving over the last few months. The sky is the limit for this kid.

Hischier and his top-seeded Team Swiss club faced off as the heavy favorites against the fourth-seeded Team USA. They were beaten by a final score of 3-0 and are out of the tournament. It appeared to be very tough on the New Jersey Devils captain after the game was over.

Hischier was named as one of the top three players on Team Swiss which came as no surprise because of his five goals and three assists for eight points over the eight games played. Despite the result, he should be proud of how good he played here.

Nico Hischier and Team Swiss are out of the IIHF World Championship Tourney.

Now the Swiss are out and a very pesky Team USA moves on. New Jersey does have a presence on that team as well as Luke Hughes is one of their top defensemen. He had an assist on a goal scored by Ben Meyers that helped put the Swiss away.

Jonas Siegenthaler also played in the game as a member of Team Swiss. All three of these guys hope to be prominent players on the Devils for a very long time. They are all playing in this tournament for a reason. Jon Gillies is on Team USA but he didn’t dress.

Team USA will now play in the semifinals against Finland who will have home-ice advantage in this one. It is going to be very interesting to see who comes out on top as the top seed is gone. Switzerland seemed to be unbeatable after handling Canada in the earlier portion of the tournament but now they are done.

This was a great experience for Hischier, however. He was able to wear the C on his chest and dominate play in every way. That is hoping what he brings to the New Jersey Devils for a long time. It is going to be so interesting and fun to see how much better he can actually get.
