The New Jersey Devils put up a good performance in game number four and have now moved to 2-2 on the season. The teams they have played so far have all been in the bottom half of the league and none will likely be in the playoffs, but they have dominated in a lot of ways which is great to see. They are also currently a top offensive team in the league with the highest expected goals for per game. With some goaltending, this team could go a long way.
The Good
The Bratt-Hischier-Palat line was exactly as good as fans expected before the season started. After five periods together, they have been nothing short of dominant. Jesper Bratt is a top-tier playmaker. With seven points in four games, he is showing the league that he just might be a superstar. Since he joined up with the other two, they have become the players we saw the last few seasons in Jersey and Tampa. Ondrej Palat looked far more physical and engaged for a second straight game. With two goals, he definitely deserved to be the first star on the night.
The entirety of the defensive core should get a big thumbs-up from fans Thursday night. They looked like they might not even give up a shot on net in the first period. By the end of the game, the team had also only allowed 17 shots which is something this team just hasn’t done for a decade.
Mackenzie Blackwood had a very quiet night but he only let in 1 goal so I will give credit where it is due. Hopefully, he can build something off of this and put up a few good games in a row but there is still a long way to go in regaining fan confidence.
The team had a great night and there is nothing bad to say which is fantastic so the team should be feeling 100% good about themselves and the effort tonight going into Saturday’s game against an awful 1-5 Sharks team.
