The New Jersey Devils are a red-hot hockey team right now. After earning their seventh straight win of the season against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night, they can start thinking about ways that they might try to upgrade their roster as the season goes along.
In this big win over Calgary, they got some fantastic goaltending from Vitek Vanecek. They would not have won without him. They also saw Nico Hischier step up to the plate to score the game-winning goal late in regulation. The rest of the team did enough to pull off the 3-2 win.
Jack Hughes, New Jersey’s other number-one overall pick, is also off to a good start this season despite not having a point in the most recent win over the Flames. He has 12 points in 13 games which is really good and we know that we will get even more than that as the season goes alone.
His younger brother Luke Hughes is currently tearing it up in college hockey as well with the University of Michigan. He is a defenseman that will be a part of the New Jersey Devils whenever Michigan gets eliminated later this year (or wins it all).
The New Jersey Devils should consider making a huge move via trade.
However, Luke might not be the only brother that should play defense for this team. It would be amazing to see them make a big-time deal for a player like Quinn Hughes who is the oldest of the three brothers. He is a defenseman currently playing for the Vancouver Canucks.
All three brothers playing for this team would be absolutely insane but all of them are very good at what they do. The things Quinn would be able to do from the back end would really help this Devils team continue to win.
As of right now, it doesn’t sound like the most outlandish thing in the world either. Vancouver appears to be open for business these days. It sounds as if President of Hockey Ops Jim Rutherford isn’t pleased with things and big contracts might be out the door.
Hughes would fall under that category as he makes 7.85 million dollars through the 2026-27 season. He is also just 23 years old so the sky is the limit for him in every way. With his two brothers in New Jersey, you’d like to think that he would be open to it.
The oldest Hughes would help the Devils grow on the power play, at five on five, and enhance their offensive game in just about every other way as well. The Devils have prospect capital that would help get a deal like this done so it is certainly something to consider.
