Former New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello made a big acquisition for his New York Islanders. Looking to win a wild card spot, he made a huge move by acquiring Bo Horvat. This could set the market, or at least get the market going.

A yield on such a player is a huge risk without a current extension in place, but if an extension is made then it decreases some risk. This segue is a perfect transition, no pun intended, to a few players the New Jersey Devils should target.

Timo Meier

Timo Meier is the next best player out there on the market, as repeatedly mentioned, with his abilities to score goals, play physically, skate well, and make others on his line look phenomenal. He also plays high-danger hockey and is a leader on the ice. He is an RFA and a controllable asset that GM Tom Fitzgerald could eventually sign to an extension. He already has ties to the Devils Swiss core, like Nico Hischier and Jonas Siegenthaler.

Tom Fitzgerald has many connections to the San Jose Sharks. He has more leverage than most other general managers since he used to employ Mike Grier as an assistant coach with the Devils. Meier would add extra pop to the Devil’s top-six forward core and make it tougher for teams to play against in the long term. Meier has 57 points per season on average type of player scoring over 27 goals on average a season. The St. Gallen, Switzerland native will be looking for not only a change of scenery but to thrive in a new market.
