New Jersey Devils: Recapping Jack Hughes’ All-Star Weekend
The New Jersey Devils have been awesome this season, and Jack Hughes has been the reason for that. He is one of the best players in the National Hockey League, and everyone is starting to take notice. That includes the best hockey player to ever play the game.
Of course, he was named to be the New Jersey Devils representative at the NHL All-Star Game for the second year in a row. This time, it took place in South Florida at the arena the Florida Panthers call home.
Fittingly, Jack Hughes became the first Florida-born player in NHL history to play in multiple All-Star Games. He is hoping to keep them coming as the years go on.
In the skills competition, he participated in the accuracy shooting, but he wasn’t all that successful. Despite Hughes accuracy with his shot this season, this challenge is clearly harder than it looks.
Leon Draisaitl, one of the league’s best scorers in the NHL over the last 10 years, was a player that finished with a worse time than Hughes. All in all, it was great to see him repping the Devils wearing the amazing Reverse Retro jerseys.
Jack Hughes seems to have had a good time at the NHL All-Star Game.
A day later, Jack Hughes participated in the 3-on-3 All-Star Game tournament representing the Devils for the Metropolitan Division. The Central Division (who beat the Pacific Division right before) was waiting for the winner of the Metro and the Atlantic in the championship.
Unfortunately, Hughes and the Metro lost this year after winning the whole thing in Vegas a year prior. The Atlantic Division ended up winning the whole thing.
There were highlights like Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, who have been the faces of the league for over a decade, combining for a couple of really pretty goals. Johnny Gaudreau also put on a show by scoring a hat trick. It’s probably the most fun he’s had all season.
None of that was enough as guys like Brady Tkachuk, Matthew Tkachuk, Nikita Kucherov, and David Pastrnak, amongst others, dominated this one for the Atlantic.
Based on last year’s performance in the Skills Competition and All-Star Game, Jack Hughes was a bit underwhelming, but it wasn’t his year to steal the show. There will be plenty of other opportunities.
Now, we await the return of the New Jersey Devils on Monday night as Jack Hughes will welcome in his brother Quinn and the Vancouver Canucks. He has a chance to set some pretty special franchise records and lead them to the playoffs. It is nice to have a superstar like this.
