The National Hockey League trade deadline is really heating up. The hot stove is already cooking hard and the New Jersey Devils are clearly a team that wants to be involved.

They certainly aren’t going to give up everything to go for it this season as this is just the first of many years but they would love to try and get better.

One player that is be available and fits their needs is San Jose Sharks star Timo Meier. We are getting close to knowing what San Jose wants back but other teams seem to be dropping out of the sweepstakes.

There have been other trades around the NHL lately that can influence the market but Meier is definitely the top target for any team.

If this trade is any indication of what the market is, the Devils might actually be able to pull off a deal because they have some pieces that can help them get it done. These are three trade packages that might get it done:

The New Jersey Devils could move on from Alex Holtz in this deal.

Timo Meier is a great player that is worth a fair return. Alexander Holtz was a very high draft pick that hasn’t advanced as some of the other players around him. However, the Sharks might be the perfect place for him to develop.

Holtz would be able to play with no pressure there in San Jose. He also already has chemistry with Sharks top prospect William Eklund from their days playing in Sweden. Seeing them play together in the AHL/NHL together would be interesting.

Fabian Zetterlund has been good at times for New Jersey but this would be a great way for him to grow his game even more. He’d play a lot more in San Jose. It would be tough to lose him but good players have to be traded for good players. The first round pick goes in all of these trades.
