The New Jersey Devils traded for Timo Meier on Sunday morning, afternoon, and night. It was a long journey to the deal getting done. Reports say the Devils and San Jose Sharks were working on the details when an injury was holding things up. The return that finally came out after 8 p.m. EST was hefty but not hefty enough to scare anyone.

It’s a haul. The Sharks got a ton from the Devils, however, they didn’t get the major pieces. Dawson Mercer was the scariest possible part of the deal. Thankfully, he wasn’t going to San Jose. Alexander Holtz felt like a formality as part of this deal. He went nowhere. Kevin Bahl has looked better on the defensive end, and he’s sticking around. Yegor Sharangovich has been playing with Jack Hughes, and he can continue to do that.

The big win for the Sharks in this deal is two first-round picks. The Devils put conditions on the second pick, so we’ll have to see what those conditions are, but that’s the win for the Sharks. They need to rebuild, and this really gets the Sharks on the right track. Sure, a superstar piece like Luke Hughes or Simon Nemec would help, but they took more lottery tickets over one big one.

The Devils made the big move. They got the biggest piece on the trade market. Timo Meier is a member of the New Jersey Devils. This is a huge win for the Devils despite the risk involved. They gave up some high-ceiling defensemen. However, they also got the perfect player at the perfect time.
