3. A win would mean so much

If the New Jersey Devils win on Wednesday, it would mean so much to them.

The New Jersey Devils have their playoff spot clinched. They have already clinched home ice in the first round as well. However, there is so much more that can be clinched with a big win over the Washington Capitals.

If they defeat the Caps and the Carolina Hurricanes lose to the Florida Panthers, the Devils will be the Metropolitan Division champions. Obviously, that would be an amazing accomplishment.

With this result, they would face Florida in the first round of the postseason. It would also confirm home ice for them throughout the postseason unless they played against the Boston Bruins in the Eastern Conference Finals.

This would also be their 52nd win of the season. The Devils have never won more than 51 games in a season, so that is significant. If they became the greatest regular season team in franchise history, they would certainly go into the playoffs with great confidence.

If the Devils lose, they will be guaranteed to host the New York Rangers to start the Stanley Cup Playoffs. It wouldn’t be the worst thing to ever happen to them, but it would be much more fun to see the Devils win the division and play the weaker team.
