The New Jersey Devils were on the brink of going down 0-3 in their series against the New York Rangers, but pulled off an overtime win to get back in the series.

Now, they can tie things up with a second straight win at Madison Square Garden on Monday night.

The New Jersey Devils made the bold call of switching up their goaltender ahead of Game 3 and it couldn’t have worked out better.

Akira Schmid got the start in the must-win game and he delivered, stopping 29-of-30 shots which led to a 2-1 overtime.

The strong start wasn’t a fluke either, as Schmid recorded a .922 save percentage in the regular season. The switch in netminder may end up being the exact momentum shifter that New Jersey needed.
