2. Timo Meier needs to score

The New Jersey Devils made a great trade to acquire Timo Meier during the regular season. He scored nine goals with New Jersey. That is a lot for the few weeks post-trade deadline. He scored 40 goals between the New Jersey Devils and San Jose Sharks. That’s the first time Meier ever did that. It was a nice mark for him to reach.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t scored a goal yet in these playoffs, which needs to change. He has been noticeable in the postseason because of his physical game, but it would be nice to see him get on the scoresheet with a goal. It may come just when they need it the most.

3. Lindy Ruff needs to outcoach Gerard Gallant

Gerard Gallant badly outcoached Lindy Ruff in Games 1 and 2. New Jersey made no adjustments to the way that they played, and they lost by the exact same final score with the exact same problems.

In Game 3, however, Ruff made an impact. He turned to Schmid, scratched Miles Wood and Brendan Smith, and the team started defending a little bit differently. It clearly worked, and it put Rangers head coach Gallant on his heels.

When the Devils take away the horizontal game that the New York Rangers like, they can play their game much more efficiently. Good coaching from New Jersey can help them complete this comeback. Lindy Ruff will get the credit he deserves if they do.
