St. Louis Blues: Pavel Buchnevich

Pavel Buchnevich is under contract with the St. Louis Blues for the next two seasons at a cap hit of $5.8 million. The 28-year-old Russian winger has seemed to hit his stride the last two seasons, posting 76 and 67 points respectively. Buchnevich can help the Devils on the power play. He scored eight power-play goals in both seasons he’s played with the Blues. He also averaged 20 power-play points per season. The Devils have more talent than the Blues, and it feels as though Buchnevich can hit another gear when playing alongside one of the two elite centermen the Devils employ in Nico Hischier or Jack Hughes.

Nashville Predators: Yakov Trenin

With just 223 NHL games under his belt, Yakov Trenin may still be a raw product. The 6’2″, 26-year-old Russian center is solid in his own end of the ice and contributes on the penalty kill. Trenin has some upside on offense as well. He scored 17 goals in the 2021-22 season and 12 this past season. His offense could hit another stride with better linemates as he has yet to hit his prime, which makes Trenin an intriguing trade target for the Devils. Slotting Trenin into their bottom-six could potentially improve the secondary scoring for the Devils.
