The New Jersey Devils are one of the most exciting teams in the NHL. With Jack Hughes leading the way, Nico Hischier giving them a prominent 1-2 punch, Dougie Hamilton knocking bombs from the blue line, and Luke Hughes fighting Connor Bedard for Rookie of the Year, the Devils are must-see TV every time the hit the ice. They will be one of the first teams on the highlight reels. Sportscentre will talk about them near the top of the show. It’s going to be a great season.

In New York, however, the Devils will be fighting tooth and nail for coverage. Just a few years ago, the Devils lost almost all of its bear reporters. Now, they are the team everyone wants to cover on a national basis, but the local reporters, while premium, aren’t coming from the traditional mediums.

The New York Post and New York Times rarely have articles covering the Devils. They aren’t high on the sportscast for FOX5 or ABC6. Heck, even News12 New Jersey spends more time on the New York Yankees or New York Knicks.

New York sports fans were obviously excited for the start of the football season. The New York Giants were coming off a surprising playoff run in 2022, and they re-signed both Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley. The New York Jets added Aaron Rodgers to a team that only really needed a quarterback. It was MetLife Stadium’s time to shine, and they had back-to-back games on national television.

Then, the games kicked off and it hasn’t gone well since. The Giants got demolished by the Dallas Cowboys worse than most have ever seen. Finishing a game down 40 to nothing is pathetic.

Somehow, the Jets won the game but still finished with a worse result. Aaron Rodgers got hurt early in the game, and the early reports say it’s a torn Achilles, which would end his season just as it started. Now, the Jets are stuck with Zach Wilson again.

Of course, as we get closer to October, the Yankees and Mets are both bound to miss the playoffs. There is no real excitement for the baseball teams, as the Yanks lost Jasson Dominguez who was the only player worth watching for as the season comes to an end.

The Devils preseason is just a few weeks away, and the team will start looking like the contender many predict it will be. It’s a good time to be a Devils fan, but the other New York teams not so much.
