The New Jersey Devils announced their specialty jerseys for Hispanic Heritage Night, and they outdid themselves with the design. The design of the jersey is subtle when compared to other designs they’ve had. The colors are pretty neutral, but the design of the logo and other accents on the jersey makes it stand out.
While it was a night to forget (that Washington Capitals game is not anything we want to remember), these jerseys are well worth it. It’s the small details that really make this jersey pop on top of the obviously loud notes around the numbers and logo. Like, the shading on the actual NJ logo is slightly darker around the edges, and it makes the coloring in the circle so much better.
The jersey was designed by New Jersey artists Andre Leon and Robert Ramone, better known as Rorshach. In a release sent out by the Devils, they say they find their design inspiration from “the raw beauty of graffiti and combine it with realism and Afrofuturism.”
The ancient symbolism the Devils and artists added to the jersey is the best part. These symbols come from Taino, Inca, and Aztec civilizations. However, it comes with a graffiti feel and design that’s very Newark. The brick outlay within the Devils logo seems like a callback to city living, but it’s actually ancient Ecuadorian ruins of Ingapirca. We love that.

The jerseys weren’t worn on the ice because the NHL always makes the wrong decision, but you can still own this sweet design. The Devils are holding a jersey auction right now. The auction is open until November 2nd, so there is plenty of time to own this sweet, one-of-a-kind memorabilia. Be prepared to shell out some cash (or credit). Right now, the cheapest jerseys are Colin Miller, Chris Tierney, Brendan Smith, and Tomas Nosek, all going for $300. If you want the Jack Hughes jersey, it’s already at $850.
