In one fell swoop, the Devils could change everything about their team, and they can keep their future intact. Dougie Hamilton is coming off a major injury, one that has really impacted defensemen in the past. Hamilton looks pretty good this season, but his shot is not where it needs to be, and it's his biggest asset. Yet, the Devils are still getting incredible offense from him, and the Devils could use a superstar outside of Quinn Hughes.
Of course, the only reason the Devils could do this is because they feel Simon Nemec's current AHL run means he's ready for the big time. He's been dominating for the Utica Comets as of late, and all of these rumors are strictly because of one off-comment he made due to frustrations of being in the AHL. So, this is a win-win.
Well, not for Hamilton. The Devils would need to be ruthless to make this deal work. We don't know how this will impact the locker room. Hamilton also has a no-move clause, so he'd have to approve the trade. That might be unlikely, which makes this deal impossible. However, if Fitzgerald asks about it, Hamilton might understand that his clause drops to a 10-team no-trade clause next year. That severely lowers his ability to choose his destination.
Outside of something like this, due to Miller's salary and his trade value, a Devils-Miller trade feels unlikely.
