4 depth scoring targets that could take New Jersey Devils over the top

While the New Jersey Devils are mostly set, it's clear that they need help with scoring depth. Here are a few options Tom Fitzgerald could look to for just that.

The New Jersey Devils have the majority of their team set. However, what's become obvious of late is their lack of depth scoring. The top guys of Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier, Jesper Bratt, and Timo Meier are all doing their thing. The problem is that the early season goals from their bottom six are no longer producing at the level they previously were. This has been very noticeable in the past two games.

They were shut out by their old friend Scott Wedgewood and the Colorado Avalanche and scored just once in the 2-1 overtime loss on Tuesday night vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. When you have games where your stars aren't scoring, you need your role players to provide that depth. General manager Tom Fitzgerald needs to add more of that to the top nine and here are some options that he may look to via trade.

1. Kyle Palmieri

Kyle Palmieri has a lot of familiarity with the Devils. After all, he had his best years in the Garden State from 2015 to 2021. He finished his New Jersey tenure with 140 goals and 266 points. He may be able to add to those totals if he's dealt back to the Devils. He's having a good year on a low-scoring New York Islanders team with 11 goals and 23 points so far.

He's making $5 million this year and is a UFA at the end of the season so there will most likely have to be some salary retention. He would fit in well in a top-six role next to Jack Hughes to give him that scoring punch they've been missing since trading Tyler Toffoli last deadline.
