5. Sign Antti Raanta

Listen, this is a long shot, but everything on this list is going to be long shots. Antti Raanta left the NHL this offseason because he was offered only opportunities and two-way contracts, but he felt at the age of 35, going to the AHL wasn't an option. We've advocated for the Devils to keep three goalies on the roster all season, so this is the opportunity to do that.

It also gives Raanta one more chance to make NHL money. He had a difficult season last year, but he was great with the Carolina Hurricanes two years ago. Goaltending is voodoo, so one shouldn't take one bad year as gospel for a guy's continued career. He should be able to come in on a cheaper deal than the others on the list and still make him more than he is now.

Raanta is currently playing with Geneve Servette, so he isn't necessarily rusty. He could jump right back into the league and be fine, especially for how little the Devils need him. It's an outside the box thought, but it's worth a phone call.

The Devils truly just need to hope that Markstrom's injury isn't as bad as it originally looked. He was in pain, but there are some positive thoughts after the Devils 5-1 win over the Bruins.
