The New Jersey Devils' season ended in dramatic fashion, losing to the Carolina Hurricanes in double overtime after Dawson Mercer took a double minor and the Canes scored. It was an awful way to lose on a questionable call after a game full of disappointments. But now it's time to move forward. The offseason is officially here. It's time for Tom Fitzgerald, Sheldon Keefe, and the rest of the leadership group to look at this roster and figure out who is a member of the future.

The New Jersey Devils have many decisions to make. According to Puck Pedia, the Devils have eight unrestricted free agents who suited up in the playoffs. The Devils could try to bring some of them back, but there are others who have worn the NJ crest for the final time.

1. Jake Allen

The New Jersey Devils really leaned on Jake Allen when Jacob Markstrom got hurt. He was great in the Devils' starter's absence. Allen had a .908 save percentage this season. The Devils were desperate for goaltending last year, and Allen was the first player to save the position for them. Adding Markstrom gave the Devils an amazing veteran duo.

Unfortunately, the Devils can't afford Allen this offseason. His contract ends, and he will find a home where he is well compensated. The Devils can't pay him more than $2 million on a one-year deal. Why would he agree to that after the season he's had?

Allen is going to find another home, but we're grateful for the impact he had on the Devils while he was here.
