Literally, what?
Somehow, people are starting to say that Timo Meier is going to be in these trade talks. Let’s just squash that immediately and say he isn’t. Meier’s numbers have been hurt by a few factors, including the Devils dwindling offense, his time on Nico Hischier’s line (that starts plenty of their shifts in the defensive zone), and most importantly, his time on PP2. That’s why he’s on pace for 23 goals and 52 points. The Devils need more from him for close to $9 million per season, but there’s zero chance they are trading him away in year 2 of an eight-year deal.
Meier is also known as a player who can get on an insane hot streak to make up for his entire season. He’s struggled mightily as of late, with no goals in January despite having the second highest individual xG, and he’s tied with Jack Hughes with eight individual high-danger chances this month. He’s clearly buzzing around the net, but he’s been insanely unlucky.
This is all to say that Meier is not available, and he’s especially not available in a J.T. Miller trade. Miller is older than Meier, costs just a little less, has apparently had issues in the locker room (reportedly), and the Devils are probably worse by replacing Meier for Miller.
We haven’t even talked about the fact that this poster wants the Devils to add Simon Nemec to the deal. It’s truly one of the most insane things we’ve seen in fake trades. They added Nils Hoglander, but he has nine points this season. Everything is pointing to last year’s 24 goals being the fluke in his resume. The Canucks think they can trade away two prospects and get one of the better prospect defensemen and a superstar winger that’s cost controlled for six more seasons?
