The New Jersey Devils received a gut punch last week when they found out that superstar Jack Hughes suffered a hand injury. It occurred at a team dinner at a Chicago restaurant, where Hughes suffered a freak accident that resulted in glass cutting his hand. After initially being ruled out for just the team's game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, it was announced by the Devils that Hughes underwent finger surgery, which will sideline him for approximately eight weeks.
This was not the news Devils fans wanted to hear. It was a freak accident, so there's no one really to blame. But some fans, Devils or hockey in general, decided to take things to unnecessary levels.
ESPN's Greg Whyshynski revealed that the Chicago restaurant where the Hughes injury took place, the Chicago Cut Steakhouse, received negative reviews from fans. All because Hughes suffered a freak accident.

Hockey fans post negative Yelp reviews of Chicago restaurant over Jack Hughes injury
So Hughes suffers an accident that results in a hand injury, and that gave leeway to some individuals to try and leave negative reviews on Yelp to try and harm the restaurant's reputation.
Based on the Yelp reviews as of this writing, it doesn't appear to be this massive movement of fans trying to "review bomb" the restaurant. Rather, it appears only a handful of fans did this. "Review bombing" is where a group of individuals make multiple accounts to post negative reviews on a place of business or product. This practice is used over products like movies and video games.
Regardless of the amount of people, to do this over an athlete getting injured by a freak accident is just odd behavior.
With Hughes expected to be evaluated in six weeks, the Devils will have to move forward without him and try to pick up as many wins as possible. The team has only played one game since the injury, which was a 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals. Even with the timeframe, there is a chance that Hughes could be ready to go to compete in the Winter Olympics for Team USA in February.
So far this season, Hughes scored 10 goals and dished out 10 assists for a total of 20 points through 17 games.
The injury happened and it was an accident. End of story. There is absolutely no need to take it out on the restaurant. Thankfully, it appears that this isn't a mass movement and rather, just a handful of people trying to be "funny."
