The New Jersey Devils have clawed their way back into their game with the Boston Bruins on Monday night, thanks to tenacity after going down 2-0. The start of the game was horrendous, with David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha both scoring in the first period. Then, 32 seconds into the second period, Connor Brown took a beautiful feed from Jack Hughes to bring the Devils within one goal. Around eight minutes later, Hughes started another great play, feeding Brown, who found Jesper Bratt for a goal.
The Devils were tied at the time of Bratt’s goal and remain tied now in the final minutes of the third period. None of it happens if Jonas Siegenthaler doesn’t come up incredibly clutch with the Devils falling apart.Â
The Devils’ defensive defenseman hasn’t been great this season, but he’s been steady in times of need. That was also the case on Monday night with the Devils already down 2-0. The puck came out from behind the net right into the middle of the ice and onto the stick of former Maple Leafs prospect Franser Minten.Â
It looked like an easy goal with Jacob Markstrom all the way behind the net for a puck that was never coming. Luckily for him, Siegenthaler came sliding across the ice and made a foot save that gave us flashbacks of Martin Brodeur.Â

Jonas Siegenthaler makes the save of the day on Fraser Minten
Former Devils goalie (and Martin Brodeur teammate) Kevin Weekes could not hold down his excitement when looking at the replay. He was near giddy when seeing Siegenthaler in action.
"I can't believe this play by Siegenthaler. Watch him on the left of your screen, it's a two pad stack! Siegenthaler with the two pad stack! Are you kidding me?!"Kevin Weekes, ESPN Analyst
If the Devils go on to win this game, this has to be considered the play of the game. There are so many other great plays, especially on the offensive side of the puck, but Siegenthaler got down and saved a goal when the Devils were about to lose complete control of the contest.Â
Despite his struggles at times this season, Siegenthaler appears to be part of the future of the franchise. He was reportedly floated in trade rumors, but so were all the New Jersey Devils defensemen not named Brett Pesce or Luke Hughes. No moves were actually made at the NHL Trade Deadline, and finding a home for one of these defensemen is an offseason issue to address.Â
