On Sunday, it was announced that former New Jersey Devils forward Ryane Clowe had resigned from his post as an assistant general manager with the San Jose Sharks after just 14 months on the job.
Clowe, 42, was hired by the Sharks on July 3, 2024, but resigned on Sunday, citing "the best interest of my family" in a statement. Before joining the Sharks, the team that drafted him back in 2001, Clowe spent three years with the New York Rangers, including two as a hockey operations advisor.
"Recently, I had to make the extremely difficult decision to resign from my position as assistant general manager with the San Jose Sharks. I truly loved being back in San Jose and working with Mike Grier and his entire team, but at this point, this decision is in the best interest of my family," Clowe said. "The franchise has an exciting future ahead and is set up to be successful for a long period of time, and I am grateful to Mike and Jonathan Becher for giving me the opportunity to return to San Jose."

It should also be noted that, after spending two seasons as an assistant coach with the Devils, Clowe became the head coach of the ECHL Newfoundland Growlers in 2018-19. He stepped down on Jan. 24 due to persistent health issues related to his concussion history.
The 42-year-old last played in the NHL in the 2014-15 season, appearing in 13 games for the Devils and scoring a goal and three assists. Clowe was limited to just 43 games for the Devils the season prior. He attempted a comeback, but a doctor advised him to retire prior to the 2015-16 season.
Overall, Clowe scored eight goals, 22 assists, and 30 points in 56 regular season games with the Devils. In his 10-year NHL career, the burly winger produced 112 goals, 197 assists, and 309 points in 491 regular season games, adding 18 goals, 28 assists, and 46 points in 70 postseason games. He coached or worked for each of the three teams he played for (Sharks, Rangers, and Devils) at the NHL level.
