It may not be long before the New Jersey Devils see an old friend coaching in the NHL ranks again, just against them for a rival organization.
Since retiring from playing hockey, former star Devils goalie Cory Schneider has spent a considerable time working in television, appearing regularly for the NHL Network as an analyst, among other gigs. Schneider, 40, also recently launched the "One Time All Stars" podcast with former Devils teammate Brian Boyle, who also spends his time in the TV world these days.
But, things are changing for the former netminder. According to Stefen Rosner of The Hockey News, Schneider has taken over as the goaltending coach for the AHL Bridgeport Islanders, as their goalie coach, Sergei Naumovs, has been promoted to the New York Islanders.

As for how it might affect Schneider's TV and media roles going forward, it is worth noting that the Bridgeport Islanders are set to relocate to Hamilton, Ontario, which is a bit of a hike away from the New York media market.
It is also worth noting that, by taking up this coaching role with the Islanders organization, Schneider will be coaching at the professional level for the first time.
The 13-year NHL veteran has no proven track record in coaching, but Devils fans have long lamented the performance of their goalies under goaltending coach Dave Rogalski, so it's understandable if there is an element of nostalgia out there amongst some supporters.
Of course, things could still change with new GM Sunny Mehta taking over the Devils, and the future of Sheldon Keefe and his coaching staff still very much uncertain at this stage in the team's offseason.
Schneider recorded his last NHL win playing for the Islanders against the Devils, making 27 saves on 30 shots in a 4-3 victory on April 3, 2022. On that note, it would appear Schneider has fully switched sides... for now.
