Every year, the Hockey Hall of Fame would do a disservice to the sport when they named their inductees for the year. Every single winner would be compared to those who weren't in the Toronto-area museum. The number one name on that list was former New Jersey Devils great Alexander Mogilny.

Mogilny was a superstar for a long time, and his story is insane. He joined the league when he was 20 years old, defecting from Russia not long after the end of the Soviet Union. He immediately joined the Buffalo Sabres, where he was good right off the bat. As scoring started to slowly drop, Mogilny got used to the new way of the NHL.

Then, he exploded. Mogilny scored a league-leading 76 goals in 1992-93. He added 51 assists for a 127-point season. Not bad for anyone who has ever been on the Sabres. Despite never hitting 70 goals again, Mogilny remained incredible for his entire career. He had 55 goals in 1995-96 for the Vancouver Canucks. Then, after a few injury-plagued years, Mogilny was traded near the trade deadline to the New Jersey Devils.

He ended up helping them win the 2000 Stanley Cup, and in 2001, he was even better. He had 16 points in 25 playoff games after putting up 43 goals and 40 assists in the regular season. He had one of the best offensive seasons in New Jersey Devils history.

It was a great injustice that he was kept out of the Hall all this time, but that injustice has finally been fixed.

Alexander Mogilny has finally been named to the Hockey Hall of Fame

This is more than deserving, as Mogilny finished with 1,032 points in 990 career games. It's a story of perserverence and success, which is exactly what the league should want to honor. The Hockey Hall of Fame finally did the right thing, but it took way too long.

Mogilny is one of the game's great players. He broke 40 goals on multiple occasions, and his 76 goals in 92-93 is fifth best in the history of the NHL. Sometimes, the best things are worth waiting for, and we couldn't be happier this Devils legend is getting his just recognition.
