Jack Hughes recorded five goals and one assist in four games over the past week, helping the Devils extend their now eight-game winning streak to make things even sweeter.
Starting his week on October 21st, Hughes scored a hat trick against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a huge 5-2 win on the road. It was his third career hat-trick, and it was north of the border. It was obvious that the Leafs struggled to contain Hughes' dominance in transition. He had a ton of space all night.
In the Devils' second game of the week against the Minnesota Wild, Hughes didn't record a point but recorded six shots on goal, keeping Wild goalie Filip Gustavvson on his feet. Then, in the Devils' third game of the week against the San Jose Sharks, Jack Hughes recorded an assist on Dougie Hamilton's second goal of the night that gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead.
Hughes capped off the week with an astonishing performance on Sunday, scoring two goals, including a game-winner in overtime against the Colorado Avalanche. His fantastic play on the ice has been a huge reason why the Devils are currently at the top of the Eastern Conference standings. He displayed his offensive skills and then let the crowd see his clutch genes.
This was well deserved for the Devils' superstar after the jaw-dropping week he had. The rest of the season will be a challenge for Hughes, as he is doing his best to make his comeback season one to remember for not only the fans in New Jersey but the rest of the hockey world to see. The critics had plenty to say about Jack Hughes this past offseason, doubting his skills only because he was coming off a shoulder injury. Well, Hughes is showing them why they should've had better opinions on him during the summer. He is currently tied for the league lead in goals with eight in just nine games; the players tied with him are Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets and Shane Pinto of the Ottawa Senators.
Jack Hughes will hope to continue his momentum this week as the Devils are on a west coast road trip, having to go up against the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks.
