Jacob Markstrom puts together the performance of a lifetime against Kraken: Watch every massive save here

Jacob Markstrom was absolutely insane against the Seattle Kraken, putting up multiple saves that could be considered Save of the Year. It was all incredibly necessary as the New Jersey Devils beat the Kraken 3-2.

We often say that not all high-danger chances are created equally. There are high-danger chances that are deemed with that distinction only because of the location of the shot. However, if the goalie is square to the shooter and it hits him in the chest, there's not really a danger. Then, there are those really high-danger chances. As of this writing, the Kraken have 10 high-danger chances according to Natural Stat Trick (with time left in the game), but there's no doubt a few of them were extreme-danger chances.

The Devils owe Jacob Markstrom a drink and an extra Christmas present after his performance against the Kraken. He made, no lie, four Save of the Year candidates in one game. The Kraken legitimately deserve to have six goals, but Markstrom would not let the Devils losing streak reach five.

We'll just jump right into the saves because they are all insane. Markstrom has never put together a performance like this, and we may have never seen one like this since prime Martin Brodeur. The first one came with the game tied and Seattle buzzing around Markstrom.

The Devils have been giving up too many 2-on-1 chances, so Markstrom is likely used to this. But what about a 3-on-1? The Kraken found the trailing third man, André Burakovsky. It looked like this was going to easily be the save of the night. It even got the traditional "Are you kidding?" from Ken Daneyko. However, there would be more to come in the third period.

The Devils literally just took the lead on an Ondrej Palat goal off an amazing Jack Hughes pass, and Markstrom was desperate to keep the lead. The shot should have been a tap-in for Eeli Tolvanen. Shane Wright's pass was just about perfect, but Markstrom knew exactly how far to extend and where to put his glove, and he made another fantastic save to keep the game at one. And yet, this still wasn't even his best save. The other was with his stick.

How does one even explain this save? Markstrom, from his back, was able to get sight of the puck as it, seemingly in slow motion, made its way towards the back of the net, but he adjusted his goalie stick and paddled it away while in the air. What? This is the save of the year. Although, Markstrom has already shown his ability with the paddle in Game 1 of the season.

Jacob Markstrom puts on the best performance from a goalie we've seen in years against the Seattle Kraken.

The Devils owe this win to Markstrom. This ends their four-game losing streak as they head back to the East Coast with two points. It was a very important win as they had a chance to stave off the Carolina Hurricanes for second place (in terms of points percentage) and gain traction on the Washington Capitals.

It was only 22 saves and two goals against, but there is no statline or scoresheet that can tell the story of this performance. One had to see the saves to believe them.
