The New Jersey Devils have been nothing short of an embarrassment this entire season so far. The fanbase is happy that we can stop watching pathetic, lifeless Devils hockey for several weeks and focus on the 2026 Winter Olympics, with the men’s hockey team starting on Wednesday. However, they still somehow can’t stay out of the spotlight for more than a minute to show how bad they have become, and it’s not just on ice either.
The Devils’ social media team has had this running joke ever since Quinn Hughes was available to trade for when he wanted out of Vancouver; on their X posts, they would crop Quinn Hughes out of any picture featuring Jack and Luke. The joke was funny for a while, and to some people it still is. But their most recent post has gotten people talking again, for all the wrong reasons.
Looking at this post, it seems all right as it’s celebrating Jack Hughes, but in the second picture, if you look closely enough, you see Matthew Tkachuk, Brady Tkachuk, and the Devils star. Still, you can see that little sliver there, of a bad Photoshop job, that’s where Quinn is standing.
Either this is part of the running joke, or it seems that nobody on the Devils social media staff looked at it and said anything about needing to fix it. Now it’s unclear whether the bad editing is supposed to be what's funny. Still, it’s clear that for a team trying to do damage control with its fanbase online, especially after everything that has gone wrong this season, this gives them more weapons to use, and it makes it look out of touch.

After a few hours, many of the Devils’ reporters have questioned about the post, as they seem not to have known about this trend to begin with:
I think it’s a joke? Has to be, right? https://t.co/gqAwnKw9xg

Bad Photoshop or Bad Joke? New Jersey Devils post has fans talking
The Minnesota Wild, the team that acquired Quinn, poked fun at this as well:
we’d be more concerned about the obvious fashion don’t here but that’s just us https://t.co/Uc5vn77meT

It may be a silly joke to even people who don’t follow the team, but it’s clear the Devils continue to find ways for people to laugh at them, even if it’s for something so simple. We understand wanting to bring levity to a bad season.
Still, if you keep going back to the topic about Quinn Hughes, especially after the way the hype went from him being here to him now on another team, and especially when they’re representing our country in a big event it’s such a god awful look for an organization that should focus on trying to move forward with how they do things, instead of making jokes.
