The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday their theme nights for the 2026-27 season. They broke them down into three categories: Theme Nights, Theme Nights & Giveaways, and Cultural Celebrations. Some of the theme nights sound fun, like K-Pop night and Devils Down the Shore, but the giveaways are where we got everyone talking.
Some of the giveaways are pretty typical. Fans can get a Luke Hughes bobblehead, a light-up LED stick, or a military hat, but it’s the giveaway surrounding Thanksgiving Week that has us intrigued, horrified, and perplexed.

New Jersey Devils introduce a butter dish as a key giveaway during the 2026-27 season
That is a butter dish built to look like the New Jersey Devils’ bench. So, we assume one would be putting the butter on the bench to keep it in the fridge. For one, are people even using butter dishes anymore? We’re pretty sure new refrigerators don’t even come with butter compartments anymore.
Yet, we want it. We are not too proud to say that we want the butter dish. Will we put butter on it? Of course not. However, this is going to have so many other uses. Maybe it’s going to display all my action figures in picturesque formatting. It’s possible we can use this to hold our eggs around the bench if they fit. It also looks like the perfect size to hold my block of Velveeta cheese.
Either way, we have to commend the Devils for their creativity. Many Devils fans have been coming to games for decades.
We’ve had a few ideas over the years for great theme nights, and the Devils haven’t taken our word for it. We think the butter dish would have been great for the idea of a “Taste of Jersey” night where we celebrate the great cuisine of the Garden State, but it is what it is. Maybe next year!
From what we remember from last year’s theme nights, they didn’t announce the giveaways at the same time. This is a much better situation. Although, we do wish there were some instances where a giveaway was just a giveaway and a theme night could just be a fun event. It’s a small issue, however, and the Devils still have fun with their themes.
