New Jersey Devils fans are hyped for the Hughes Bowl, even without Jack Hughes

Pucks and Pitchfork's own Jennifer Streeter was onsite at the Prudential Center, talking to various members of the New Jersey Devils' fan base. Here's her own account on just how excited the fans are for Monday's Hughes Bowl and why.

After the New Jersey Devils lost to the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday night, a select few Devils lost a lot of excitement for the rest of the season. This was simply not the case with fans who traveled in from all over the globe for Monday's game againt the Vancouver Canucks.

The Devils versus Vancouver is one of the most anticipated and biggest National Hockey League games of the year. This is because the matchup is more commonly known as "the Hughes Bowl" due to the fact that Jack, Luke and Quinn Hughes will all be sharing the ice. Jack is the star center for the Devils, Luke is the youngest of the three and a defenseman for New Jersey while Quinn is the eldest brother and captain of the Canucks.

While Jack will be missing in on-ice action due to his injury, he will be supporting his brothers in-person as he has already been spotted in New Jersey.

The Hughes Bowl still promises plenty of excitement, with the youngest brother and reigning Norris Trophy winner facing off with what is sure to be both plenty of admiration for one another and a presence of sibling rivalry.

"I mean, you watch guys like my brother [Quinn], he's extremely consistent. He's making plays every night, playing his game, and that's what I try and aspire to be."

After attending the Devils' most recent game against the Senators for my own eyes, I — Jennifer Streeter — stayed back and interviewed fans both inside and exiting the Prudential Center about their excitement for the upcoming Hughes Bowl and what they are most looking forward to.

An Event for Fans from all over the World

After interviewing fans all over the Rock, one thing is for certain — people have traveled from all over the world to watch the Hughes Bowl. From Orlando, Seattle, Chicago and even the United Kingdom, fans were plentiful around the city of Newark, N.J..

"I came up specifically for the game against the Canucks, a.k.a Hughes Bowl ... Seeing two brothers on the ice now is legendary — especially when they play for different teams. And [the game] is a huge meet-up where everybody I know is going to be here from all over the country and the world."

"The Hughes boys, they get us going. I love Quinn. I appreciate the defensive side of things. Luke is getting there. I feel like Brett Pesce is teaching him and he's getting there. But Quinn, he's just on a whole other level."
Adam, NJ Devils fan
"I've always wanted to go to New Jersey for a Devils game because the community just seems awesome and amazing. I've met a lot of people online through [the] Devils so it was about time I came down for a game."
Mia, NJ Devils fan from Seattle
"I feel like in a couple of years, maybe in the next five to ten years, because I feel the Hughes brothers are going to become some of the most iconic players in hockey, this [game] is going to be a really special moment. It does suck that Jack is not going to be here, like I really wish that I was going to get to see the three of them ... The only reason I would come all the way from London for a game would be for something as iconic as this."

No matter what way you slice it, any Hughes Bowl is a game for the ages. Monday, March 24th, 2025 will be no different.

Jennifer Streeter will be onsite for Monday's game against the Vancouver Canucks in the press box and interviewing fans once again postgame. Be sure to tune in to her Twitter here for her live coverage.
