The New Jersey Devils are preparing for the NHL Trade Deadline. They are moving things around, and it appears that a few veterans on the squad are no longer going to be on the squad.

Reports came out on Thursday that the Devils are placing Evgenii Dadonov, Luke Glendening, and Maxim Tsyplakov on waivers. Now, a few things are true here. The Devils could put them on waivers and keep them all on the roster. However, none of them have earned a place on the roster this season.

All three players have been in the lineup for a total of 78 games and have a total of four points. None of those players has a goal with the Devils. Obviously, many of those games were played by Luke Glendening, but he’s also the only one with points. Glendening has four assists, while the others have zero.

Dadonov was a player who was expected to have an important role on the offense. He opened the season on the top line with Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt. He was coming off a 20-goal season, so it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that he’d be a good top-line forward. Unfortunately, he got hurt in that first game, and he missed more than a month of time. He got hurt a second time, limiting him to just 17 games.

Luckily, the Devils only paid Dadonov $1 million with multiple bonuses locked into the contract. His lack of production and injuries will limit those bonuses.

Tsyplakov came to the Devils in the Ondrej Palat trade with the New York Islanders. He was someone who was mostly here to make the money work, but the Devils were hoping he could show something worthwhile during the contract. He hasn’t been terrible, but the Devils need offense, and he hasn’t produced any offense.

Will any of these players get claimed? We could see any of those players getting claimed as depth players, but it’s more likely than not they remain with the Devils. At least, for now. If they get passed waivers, it’s still possible they get traded.
