New Jersey Devils prospect gets amazing news with promotion to NCAA

New Jersey Devils goaltending prospect Mikhail Yegorov was facing insane competition in the USHL this season, but he got news that they are allowing him to enroll early to Boston University.

The New Jersey Devils have one of the most exciting goaltending prospects in the world, which is an exciting proposition. In a few month's time, Tom Fitzgerald was able to revamp the present and the future of the goaltending position. First, he traded for Jake Allen at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. Then, in the offseason, he traded for Jacob Markstrom. On Day 2 of the NHL Draft, Fitzgerald traded John Marino to the Utah Hockey Club to get two second-round picks, and with one of those picks, they drafted goalie Mikhail Yegorov.

It already looks like the Devils knocked this pick out of the park. He was one of our prospects to watch for the second half because he's been dominant in the USHL. He's on an absolutely dreadful team, but he's been doing everything he can to give his team a chance to win.

The Omaha Lancers have been awful this season. Yegorov actually made 63 saves in one game this season.... and lost. Its just how it has been this season. Yegorov has a .912 save percentage this season, yet his team is 3-12-3 in his starts. Woof.

On Wednesday, we learned that the Lancers are allowing Yegorov to upgrade. He was already committed to Boston University, but that stint will start earlier than expected.

Yegorov leaves a program at the bottom of the standings and immediately joins the number 11 ranked team in college hockey.

The Terriers have been going with Mathieu Caron as its starter. He was amazing as the starter last season following his transfer from Brown University, but he hasn’t been nearly as effective this year. His save percentage dropped from .915 to .895, and he’s allowing almost an entire goal per game more on his GAA.

This will likely give Yegorov an opportunity to take over starts right away, and he might even be there full time before the Frozen Four tournament begins in March. Yegorov also made it just in time to play in the Beanpot tournament if Boston can trust him by then. That tournament starts the first week of February.

We’re assuming everything as far as admissions has been taken care of, but as we’ve learned with Samu Salminen, that’s not always cut and dry. Either way, this is amazing news for Yegorov as a prospect, and the Devils should be celebrating today.
