The New Jersey Devils are one of the more disappointing teams in the National Hockey League this season. There has been bad goaltending, rough coaching, and injury trouble all contributing to this tough year.

With all of that said, this team has somehow not been pushed too far down. They were idle on Thursday but a lot of scoreboard luck helped them out.

New Jersey entered the idle night six points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for third place in the Metropolitan Division. They also entered five points behind the Washington Capitals for the final spot in the Wild Card.

The Detroit Red Wings were also ahead of them by three points as they continue to fight for their playoff lives as well.

The New Jersey Devils had a great Thursday night despite not playing

Remarkably, all of these teams lost in regulation. To say that the Devils got a break here would be an understatement. They still need more help as the season winds down but this was a great start.

They also need to take care of business in their games. Their next game is on Friday night against the Buffalo Sabres. If they win, they will be just three points behind the Washington Capitals for that Wild Card spot and four points behind the Philadelphia Flyers for that Metropolitan spot.

This game between New Jersey and Buffalo is the only game on the NHL slate for Friday too. They need to win this game in the worst way. It doesn’t matter how they get a victory but they need to win.

New Jersey has plenty of high-end players and they are led by Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier. Both of those guys have been on fire lately and this is a time in which the team needs them to be at their best.

Another player to single out is Timo Meier. He has scored 14 goals in the month of March which leads the NHL. The Devils have started to win more games as a result so his worth to the team is becoming clear. They need him to be a big physical out there and to score some goals.

After winning four of their last five games, they are in a good position. They have been good lately but they need to keep it going. If they play the Sabres at their best, they can beat them. An opportunity has been presented to them and it is time to take advantage.
