It was clean out day for the Vancouver Canucks, and this is a team that's faced insane rumors and massive disappointment. We all figured the players would have a lot to say in their final press conferences. We already know that Brock Boeser isn't returning. J.T. Miller was traded months ago to the New York Rangers. However, there are still stars here, and the one everyone wanted to talk to was Quinn Hughes.
And that's the part that interests New Jersey Devils fans. Quinn Hughes' two younger brothers currently play for the New Jersey Devils. Luke Hughes is preparing for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and Jack Hughes is recovering from surgery on his shoulder.
Still, Quinn Hughes is a guy Devils fans will always target until he signed a long-term deal with the Canucks. Heck, some might think the Devils could make the move this offseason. We didn't hear much about that in the Hughes press conference. He seems committed to the Canucks for now. He is their captain, and he claims to take that seriously, and we have no reason not to believe him.
With no signs of a trade request or any soft pressure from Hughes, the Canucks will likely do their best to build around him. He's going to give this at least one more go. With two season left on his current deal, there's no actual pressure to move him and they can't sign him to an extension. The rumors can rest for a little bit.
He did reveal something that should be interesting to Devils fans. He talked about his motivation for training this offseason. It was more than just trying to get better. Someone who is in the Vezina Trophy conversation every year can keep it simple. However, he talked about something very telling.
Quinn Hughes: This summer is going to be about trying to get my body feeling as good as I can so I can play 82 games the way that I want to and also the Olympics. #Canucks @Sportsnet650

Quinn Hughes gave us insights on Jack Hughes's possible offseason strategy
Quinn Hughes will obviously train with his brother Jack Hughes at some point, especially after the latter recovers from surgery. Will the Devils' Hughes follow in his brother's footsteps? They did miss an opportunity to play together for Team USA at the 4 Nations Face-Off. Jack Hughes made the team, and Quinn would have been on there if he was healthy. He ended up missing the tournament, and it sounds like Vancouver ended their captain's attempt to make it back for the championship game.
In the Olympics, the Americans have a legit shot at winning gold for the first time in 45 years. The Hughes brothers have a chance to make this a family affair. We do think Jack Hughes is going to focus his training on staying healthy for a full 82-game season, just like his brother.
We always expected Hughes to have this priority, but hearing his brother discuss it openly confirms it. They both faced injury issues this season, but it would be huge for the Devils star to get himself in a position to survive the demands of an NHL season.
