Report: New Jersey Devils have called Vancouver Canucks about Quinn Hughes

The New Jersey Devils and Quinn Hughes are obviously going to be connected until he either comes here or another Hughes brother leaves. However, with the Devils currently in a five-game losing streak, the pressure is on to make a move soon.

The New Jersey Devils are currently in a five-game losing streak. It’s the lowest Devils fans have felt about their team in a long time. After going two straight games with zero goals, the Devils scored just one on a Boston Bruins team that is without Charlie McAvoy and David Pastrnak.

The Devils are truly in a bad way right now, and it’s never been clearer that a move must be made. So many rumors say they are going after big fish, including former 60-goal scorer Steven Stamkos. They are also reportedly in on Blake Coleman and Ryan O’Reilly.

However, the most obvious trade piece and one that could really help the Devils now is Quinn Hughes. The Vancouver Canucks are in last place in the Western Conference at the time of this writing. They put their chips on the table, and they lost. It’s not a good team, and it’s time to pick up the pieces and start over.

Everyone believes the Devils will be in on the market for one of the top defensemen in hockey, but insiders have been speaking the praises of the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings, as of late. However, one of the biggest insiders finally tied the Devils to the Quinn Hughes sweepstakes.

Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald made a call to discuss a Quinn Hughes acquisition

While Friedman makes it clear that the talks are preliminary and that nothing is imminent, with how bad the Devils have played as of late, and still at least four weeks until Jack Hughes is back, the Devils have to make a move. They can’t keep going forth like this. There’s no life in this team at this point.

Trading for Quinn Hughes would change everything in a moment. Yes, it would cost a ton right now. To get the trifecta of Hughes brothers, it likely costs Simon Nemec, along with multiple other high-leverage pieces.

And honestly? It’s what is necessary to get the deal done when the Devils need it. Prior to this losing streak, the Devils weren’t in a rush. They could wait this out, knowing they had the most desirable destination simply because they have Jack and Luke Hughes under long-term contracts.

Hopefully, the Devils make a move sooner rather than later. The value of Quinn Hughes on the Devils’ roster now is immense. He would completely change the lineup. Not only is he one of the best defensemen in the league, but he drives offense single-handedly. He can change how this team is playing on his own.

Make the move now, Tom. It might save this season, and a lot more than that.
