This Jack Hughes rating has angered the internet

New Jersey Devils star Jack Hughes has been incredibly popular in 2026, and that's led to an interesting rating that has everyone on the internet talking.

Jack Hughes has become a polarizing figure. After he scored the Golden Goal in the Winter Olympics, he became the most discussed player for a few weeks, and that attention has come with opinions. For whatever it's worth, the attention has turned mostly positive, especially now that the Quinn Hughes non-extension has been the story of the offseason.

As we continue to talk about the Hughes brothers, they are back in the news for an entirely different reason. It’s not because of anything they are doing on the ice, although they are on the ice training together, but it was how they were rated in the premier hockey video game this year.

NHL 27 announced that Macklin Celebrini would be on the cover, just two years after Jack, Quinn, and Luke Hughes were on the cover. And now, we’re starting to hear who have the highest ratings in the game. Jack Hughes was given a very good rating, sitting at a 94 overall.

It’s tied for the best overall rating of Hughes’s career, with the year he was on the cover. It is also good for the seventh-best center in the game, tied with the Vegas Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel.

We get why it’s controversial, but Hughes did have the second-most points of any player after the Olympics. Only Connor McDavid had more, as he was fighting for his playoff life.

However, the hockey world did not appreciate the rating for Hughes. While he isn't one of the top rated players in the game, he is ahead of some very interesting players.

The internet is big mad at Jack Hughes's high EA Sports rating

The one that many had an issue with is Nick Suzuki. The reigning Selke Trophy winner just had a 100-point season, something Hughes has never done. Yet, Suzuki is behind the Devils’ star.  Another star who sits behind Hughes is Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews, who was actually on a higher line on Team USA when they won the gold medal. He was rated a 92.

This is probably because Hughes has the skill set that works incredibly well on the video game. He skates like the wind, can snipe the puck from literally any angle, and his speed is hard to comprehend when he hits its top. Those translate incredibly well to EA Sports, and we love playing as Jack Hughes in the game because of it. It’s basically a cheat code without being one of the stars of the game.

We will always hear people say bad things about Jack Hughes. There are political reasons, but there's also the fact that he stole the gold medal away from Canada. The pomp and circumstance surrounding the gold medal win are hard to rectify for Canadians, who are the primary customers for the NHL, and vis-a-vis, NHL 27.
