The New Jersey Devils are enjoying their summer vacations, but in exactly one month, there will be hockey on the ice. That’s right, we now know when the Devils are going to be taking the ice for the first time during the 2026-27 season.
Well, at least we know when some of the Devils will be taking the ice. We do know the Devils will begin the preseason, which is going to be just four games this season because of the new 84-game regular-season schedule, on Sunday, September 20th.
This will be the first time we get to see some faces in a Devils jersey for a first time, including Evan Rodrigues, Anthony Mantha, Amadeus Lombardi, and Declan Chisholm. It’s also a chance to see some rookies and prospects play, like former first-round pick Anton Silayev and bottom-six competitor Shane Lachance.
It won’t be the first time we see them. We learned that the Devils, who usually take part in a prospect’s challenge with the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres, with other teams usually joining in, will actually just head across the Hudson River and onto Long Island for a rookie camp scrimmage.

So, Devils fans looking to get their first glimpse of Silayev, Matyas Melovsky, Xavier Parent and Ethan Edwards this season can do so by getting tickets to what is essentially a home-and-home series between the Devils and Islanders. The Devils’ home game will be on Sunday, September 13th for a matinee game. Great for your kids to go see the Devils’ “kids.”
Then, the Devils head to Long Island for their last game before the preseason on September 15th. Tickets are on sale for the Islanders' home game starting at just $20. We have not seen any announcement about tickets for the Devils’ home game, which is being played at the RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House.
Hopefully, they let fans in the building because plenty of people would love to get a glimpse of these young guns before they become stars.
