A massive snow storm crushed the Northeast this week. It shut down a chunk of the Tri-state area, canceling the New Jersey Devils game on Tuesday. It was exactly what the team needed.
The New Jersey Devils ended their ten-game losing streak in a big way Thursday night. An offensive explosion led to a 6-2 win over the rival Philadelphia Flyers.
After the game, Taylor Hall told Andrew Gross of The Record that a snowstorm that canceled Tuesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets was the break the team needed. It gave the players a chance to reflect on what was going wrong. It clearly helped Hall, who ended the night with two goals.
Keith Kinkaid made some really good saves and kept the team ahead 3-2 in the second period. Despite two powerplays, Kinkaid shut the door against a few really good chances. Wayne Simmonds had a shot from literally a foot away, and Kinkaid made a great glove save to keep the Devils in the lead.
It was the best overall effort from the Devils in a long time. There haven’t been six goals on the Devils side of the scoreboard since January 21st. Of last season.
The Devils still scored most of their goals in the top six, but it shows the team has enough there to compete next season. This win showed what this team could do with a little help.

It took a snow day, something you wear your pajamas inside out when your in elementary school, for the team to figure out what was going wrong.
Hall went on to say the team needs to come to the rink and enjoy what they are doing. The players clearly had fun Thursday night. If they continue this mindset, it could provide a fun end of season for both fans and players. It could also give them confidence in the team’s future going into next season.
To think, it all started with a snow day.
