Trade Him

It’s on the table at this point. The Devils could use Zacha as a piece to bring back a defenseman. Like I’ve said multiple times, Zacha is a 20 year old with a ton of skill and a year’s worth of NHL experience. He would be a desirable piece for any team looking to make a trade.

It would be tragic to “give up” on Zacha already. There is no doubting that this player could really help this team if he can put everything together. Unfortunately, bigger locks have failed as NHL players. Do I think that he will end up being a bust? No. But do I think there is a possibility we’ve already seen the best we’re going to get? It’s possible.

Right now, Zacha’s value is very high. He is a desired piece that many teams will want to make a call on. In fact, I’m sure when all 31 GMs met this week, many of them were talking to Ray Shero about how available Zacha is.

I will say, the Devils should never trade him just to trade him. The only way Zacha should be available is if the Devils are getting a piece to immediately fix this defense. Especially with the injury to Mirco Mueller, the back end is giving fans flashbacks of last year. If Zacha can be used to fix that overnight, the Devils should strongly consider that option.
